In January 2017, Doncaster was chosen as a Social Mobility Opportunity Area. This status will see the borough receive £6m over the next three years to address the barriers that residents face in terms of social mobility. This is a significant opportunity for someone to lead the delivery across the local partnership, and ensure real and meaningful change for residents in the borough. Doncaster MBC and the Department for Education are looking to appoint a strategic thinker who understands local public services and has a strong commitment to creating a better borough.

The post-holder will:

  • Lead the delivery in line with the national context, working with all partners and building upon the recommendations in One Doncaster, Independent Education and Skills Commission report and Statement of Implementation.
  • Ensure that other external and/or national initiatives are co-ordinated and aligned, gaining maximum impact.
  • Lead the development of a virtual team with the DfE Head of Delivery and other opportunity areas across the country to ensure maximisation of best practice.
  • Lead the development of the policy, programme management, planning and performance management of the Opportunity Area; this will include, but not be limited to, interfacing with the Council’s Strategy and Performance Unit and development of the Social Mobility Opportunity Area and Education & Skills Programme, working with internal teams to ensure alignment with the existing Children and Young People’s Plan.
